Breaking Strongholds Through The True Knowledge Of God

This blog post will unfold the hidden truths of how our earthly father's affections and emotions affects our true knowledge of God.

We christians must adopt an offensive posture if we are to break free from a stronghold.

If you want to ever to be truly free, you must first know the truth about the personality of God.

As Jesus tells us in John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Secondly, you must pursue an intimate relationship with God, who is  a real person.

You must hunger for Him and long to know Him intimately, searching for the true knowledge of God's personality.

Our strong-willed determination to overcome our weaknesses and addictions is not our sanctification.

Our sanctification is found in a person: Jesus Christ! He Himself " became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification,  and redemption" (1 Cor. 1:30).

How To Understand God's Love For Us

Most Christians have vague, contradictory ideas about God's personality. And our ideas usually come from our relationships with earthly authority figures.

If you think of the authority figures who were the most influential in our earthly years, you will find that many of our ideas of God are connected to these people.

Usually the most significant person in the forming of these ideas is one's earthly father.

Also important are mothers or perhaps an athletic coach, a tutor, a schoolteacher or even an athlete, anyone who is looked up to and admired.

Our experience with these authorities figures affect us emotionally.

The Following Descriptions Of Earthly Fathers.

The passive or Distant Father: The emotionally distant or passive father expresses his affections in minimal way. He assumes you know he loves you, but he rarely speaks it.

When something wonderful or tragic happens, the passive father just nods his head.

You begin to believe God is like that as well.

He does not feel your pain or share your joy.

He has little affections to express to you. You may reap strong emotional consequences if you are raised by this kind of father.

The Authoritarian Father

The authoritarian father intervenes to stop what you are doing. He hands out lists of dos and don'ts.

He interrupts you and say no to the things that are important to you.

Your heart is quenched by this. This kind of father does not honor your individuality.

He is not interested in your desires or goals. He wants know partnership or deep intimacy with you, but only to be obeyed.

The Abusive Father

Abusive fathers inflict pain on their children deliberately, hurting them emotionally, mentally, physically and sometimes sexually.

There is no greater torment in life than the torment of an abusive father.

It only destroys the child's natural emotions, but it deeply shapes his relationship with God.

The Absent Father

The fourth type of father is one who is totally absent.

He is not like the passive father who is there yet does not communicate. He is simply never there.

Therefore he never intervenes to help you in times of trouble.

You feel totally abandoned and neglected by your earthly father.

This hinders your ability to experience the presence of your heavenly father.

The Accusing Father

The fifth father is the most common example.  He is the accusing father.

He proclaims to love you with his whole heart, but he judges you continually at every failure.

In his mind he is trying to motivate you to do right. He thinks if he points your failures, you will be motivated to try harder next time.

He rarely shows you affection or affirms you.  If you grew up with this type of father,  you will have great difficulty understanding the love of your heavenly father because you will think God is always accusing you.

This presents a dilemma for us,  for God is not like our earthly figures.

In psalm 50:21 we read that God said, "You thought I was altogether like you" But " My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,'says the Lord. ' for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways' (Isa.55:9).

As high as the heavens are above the earth,  so God's affections and emotions are higher than man's affections and emotions.

The greatest father on the earth falls infinitely short of the emotions of God.

There is no adequate human model to give a picture of God's heart.

The true knowledge of God's pure, faithful, passionate affections for you and me is far more powerful and life transforming than any human witness we may or may not have had.

It is the Holy spirit, not human witnesses, who reveals God's love for us and makes Him real to our hearts, and that revelation is available to everyone.

When you come to your heavenly Father for help, you will not be ignored or rebuked.

You will not be ridiculed for your mistakes. He is extraordinary patient towards you.

He cares for you affectionately and watchfully. His love for you will never fail or come to an end.

Recovering The True Knowledge Of God

What will cure the hundred lesser evils that are everywhere among us? It is the knowledge of God's personality.

Knowing how He views us in Christ will strengthen the inner man and demolish Satan's strongholds.

Christianity must become God centered. We must recover the lofty concept of God and rediscover His majesty.

We must practice the art of long and loving meditation on the truths of the scriptures and the being of God.

Only one thing will satisfy our deep cravings. We must come to know God as He is: the excellence of His person; His extravagant passion;  and His ravished heart.
